Welcome to AI•BI Versión en español

The Advanced Imaging & Bioinformatics Initiative is a trans-disciplinary, interdepartmental network between laboratories of the University of Chile in Santiago de Chile.

AI•BI covers the field of Applied Mathematics, Medical Biosciences, and Computer Science and fosters the formation of a regional cluster of excellence in the field of scientific imaging, bioinformatics, and advanced optics. The participating laboratories join skills, manpower, and infrastructure to peruse common research goals and educational projects in Chile and Latin America.

AI•BI catalyses the formation of a new generation of students, professionals, and scientists in the fields of advanced imaging, bioinformatics, and biomedical informatics by strengthening the contacts between the public, academic, and private sector in Chile and Latin America. AI•BI members cordially invite interested students, investigators, and professionals to participate in a broad range of educational and research related activities provided by our network.
Long-term Goal

AI•BI fosters trans-disciplinary research projects and educational programs with the long-term goal to form a new generation of students, professionals, and researchers at the interface of applied mathematics, biomedicine, and computer science. In this context, we envision the evolution towards a Latin American reference centre for advanced imaging, bioinformatics, and optics in the context of biological and medical applications.

AI•BI members have appointments at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the University of Chile. They represent the Department of Computer Science (DCC) , the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM) of the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (FCFM), the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBM.

AI•BI members train undergraduate and graduate students at the Faculty of Medicine with the largest Postgraduate Program in Biomedical Sciences in Chile and at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics (courses, tutorials, and participation in diverse research activities). They organize international courses, summer schools, and certificate programs, and foster the implementation of a first trans-disciplinary Master and PhD program in Medical and Biomedical Informatics within Chile in collaboration with international partners. Through these activities, AI•BI disseminates its cross disciplinary expertise to a broad scientific community and students inside of Chile and Latin America.
